Located in the 5 – star hotel, The Maxwell Reserve, is an Indian fine dining restaurant, called Shikar Singapore. The moment you walk into the hotel, it feels like you are transported back into time to Indian Royalty. Lining the walls are pictures and artefacts of Indian Royalty, Sikh soldiers in world wars and weapons.
The hotel boasts two bars – Isabel and Officer’s Mess Polo Bar, one restaurant – Shikar and one café – cultivate.
From Tuesday to Friday, Shikar offers its guests a lunch thali menu ($53++) with an option for vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
For vegetarians, you have the option of Curd Cheese, Kufte or Tandoor Roasted Paneer for your main. For non-vegetarians, you can choose either the Black Tiger Prawns, Kari or Tandoor Roasted Chicken, “Makhani” for your main.
The sides, rice, and bread dishes for both meal options are the same. Sides and rice include Spinach Mash, Shikari Daal, Young Tumeric & Green Beans, Steambed Basmati Rice, Cucumber Mint Raita and Green Leaf Bowl. For bread, you get to pick one of the following – Wheat Roti, Naan, Maise Millets Roti, and Whole Wheat Parantha You can check out the full menu here.
The Black Tiger Prawns, Kari definitely stole the show for me. It was the perfect blend of spicy, creamy, and mouth-watering!
Overall, the dishes were tasteful, filled with spice and buttery. Super delicious and flavourful. I absolutely enjoyed the young turmeric and green beans which were crunchy with just the right amount of spice.
For an additional $10, you get to enjoy the dessert of the day.
No meal is complete without dessert, we opted for the Jaggery Bulghur Hulw ($19++). The staff were really accommodating to my nuts allergy and had them placed separately. The dish was sweet and light with nuanced flavours.
Lastly, we had to complement the dessert with Shikar’s Saffron Masala Chai. You have the option of ordering the cup ($15++) or a kettle ($25++). Trust me, one kettle is not enough!
The masala tea was the perfect ending to our meal at Shikar Singapore. One of the best teas I have ever had. The perfect combination of sweet, spice and at the right temperature.
Shikar is definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for a comfortable environment to dig into Indian fine dining. The chef behind the scrumptious food at Shikar is Surjan Singh, fondly known as Chef Jolly. Chef Jolly is an experienced chef with many awards to his name and was also a Judge for Master Chef India. I highly recommend Shikar Singapore to anyone looking for authentic and traditional Indian cuisines.
The hotel and restaurant have calming and welcoming vibes with friendly staff. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the restaurant and hotel smelled, looked and made me feel. I can’t wait to make my next visit to try more dishes from their menu!
